Biography

Dr. Rick Niska, recently retired from the US Public Health Service, received his MD from the University of Virginia, and his MPH in epidemiology-biostatistics and tropical health from the Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, Maryland. He is board certified in emergency and family medicine. He is an Associate Professor of Military and Emergency Medicine at the Uniformed Services University.  Until September 2018, he served at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for twelve years, including tours at the Office of Public Health Preparedness and Response, the Malaria Branch, the Division of HIV-AIDS Prevention, and the National Center for Health Statistics.  He has extensive international experience, including deployments to Nigeria, Botswana, Haiti, Central America, Iraq, Micronesia, Tanzania and Cuba.  His previous experience includes assignments with the US Coast Guard, the Health Resources and Services Administration, the Indian Health Service, and community and university-based emergency medicine practice.
