The Tufts University Pain Research, Education and Policy (PREP) program is a first-of-its-kind graduate program focusing on an interprofessional approach to pain in research, clinical-, psychosocial- and population-based contexts. The PREP program prepares you to tackle head on today’s most urgent public health issues involving pain and pain treatment, including opioid addiction and treatment for chronic pain.
Interprofessional Education. Personalized Curriculum.
As a PREP student, you’ll study alongside nurses, physicians, pharmacists, physician assistants, physical and occupational therapists, acupuncturists, and other professionals and preprofessionals– providing unique perspectives in a diverse classroom. Through foundational courses and electives tailored to your area of study, you’ll study pain from both biomedical and public health perspectives, and learn critical research skills and health policy analysis. Courses include:
- Introduction to Clinical Pain Problems
- Neuroscience of Pain: From Society to Synapse
- Palliative Care and End-of-Life Issues
- Public Policy, Legislative, and Forensic Issues
Online and On-site Learning
PREP is a flexible program geared to both full-time students and busy working professionals interested in part-time study. The world-class faculty delivers the rigorous, relevant curriculum through courses using in-person, video, blended and online formats.
Choose a Masters or Certificate Program
In the MS in PREP you will complete a capstone project relating to your career experience and concerns. You will apply what you’ve learned over the program to pain topics that interest you, achieving new expertise and competencies for professional success.
In the certificate program you’ll tailor a course of study and earn 15 academic credits, which can later be applied to a full masters degree.
We extend our reach through partnerships that allow you to expand your study. We offer the MS in PREP in a joint masters degree in acupuncture with the New England School of Acupuncture at MCPHS University. And in conjunction with the Tufts Occupational Therapy Department, we offer a certificate program in the advanced study of pain in occupational therapy.
The PREP Master of Science program is a graduate degree built on a rigorous curriculum taught by the world-class faculty of Tufts University.
