Campus & Community

The Tufts University School of Medicine is located in the heart of Tufts’ health sciences campus in downtown Boston. This proximity with several other Tufts science and professional schools, including the School of Dental Medicine, the Gerald J. and Dorothy R. Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy, the Sackler School of Graduate Biomedical Sciences, and the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging, exposes TUSM students to a stimulating health care environment that pulsates with discovery and innovation. Tufts Medical Center, one of the leading hospitals in the nation, also shares our campus.

Outlets for studying and socializing abound. Our modernized classrooms and “learning communities”—comfortable spaces dedicated to classes, group study, mentoring, and advising—provide ideal settings for students to learn, relax, and interact with faculty. With two cafes, the Hirsh Health Sciences Library, and the new Tauber Fitness Center right on campus, TUSM creates a strong, tight-knit community within a few city blocks.

We share that sense of community with the whole of Tufts University—whose arts and sciences and veterinary campuses are just outside the city. A highly competitive, world-class institution, Tufts is known for its focus on interdisciplinary study, outstanding teaching and research, and active citizenship.

TUSM students also have one of the country's most venerable—and most vibrant— cities as their playground. The capital of Massachusetts, Boston is steeped in history and culture, from elegant and ethnic dining and shopping to artistic venues, such as symphony, ballet, opera, live theatre, jazz, and much more.

Located in Boston’s Chinatown neighborhood, TUSM is just steps away from restaurants, historic sites, the theatre district, and the city’s many spectacular public parks. We also share the region with some of the world’s most prestigious hospitals, biomedical industries, and institutes of higher learning—creating a rich and rewarding intellectual climate in which to study, socialize, and work.
